Coming to Berkeley to celebrate graduation? We have you covered.
Every May, Berkeley welcomes the friends and family of students who will soon add a college degree to their resumes. Graduating from the University of California, Berkeley is a major life achievement and the city is filled with joyful celebration and revelry.
Cal grads know the drill, but just in case they were sooo focused on finals, and forgot to share some key travel resources, Visit Berkeley has you covered.
Step one, book your hotel early as possible as hotels will fill up. The closest hotels to campus are the Graduate Berkeley, Hotel Shattuck Plaza, Bancroft Hotel, and Berkeley City Club, but many other options are within easy walking or rideshare distance.
Post-commencement, you are going to want to take the newly-tassled grad out for a nice meal to celebrate, right? Berkeley's dining options are bountiful, but like hotel accommodations, early planning helps to get the right table at the right time. Many of Berkeley's best restaurants offer online reservations.
Grads deserve gifts (student loans!). Berkeley is stocked with shops offering handcrafted gifts, artisan-made products, great bookstores, as well as more practical supply centers. Of course, remember to bring a blue-and-gold bouquet; Berkeley's got flower power!
Take the Telegraph Tour, get your nosh on in Gourmet Ghetto, or check out a couple Cal Secret Spots. Berkeley may begin at Cal, but there's also a cool college city around campus waiting to be discovered. The Berkeley Visitor Information Center downtown is a great place to start.
For detailed information, ceremony schedules and locations, ticketing and additional logistics, check out UC Berkeley's official graduation site. There's also "Bk," the new UC Berkeley app packed with useful info and discounts. To download the app, search for "UC Berkeley Mobile" in the Apple or Google app stores.
