What is Berkeley Restaurant Week?

Berkeley Restaurant Week is a promotional initiative taking place January 21-31, 2020. Created by Visit Berkeley to stimulate post-holiday restaurant business and promote the city as a culinary destination, Berkeley Restaurant Week (BRW) is a festival of great dining.

What is required for a restaurant to join Berkeley Restaurant Week?

There is no cost for restaurants to participate in BRW. We ask restaurants to do three things:

  • provide Visit Berkeley with a special prix fixe Restaurant Week menu by late December
  • agree to offer its Restaurant Week menu for the duration of the promotion
  • donate a $50 gift card/certificate for Visit Berkeley promotional purposes during the course of the promotion (social media contests, etc.)

That’s it! The requirements are few, but the potential rewards are bountiful!

How does a restaurant register? Is there a deadline?

There's a fast and easy online registration form to facilitate sign-up. The deadline to register is October 21.

What are the menu prices?

BRW offers prix fixe lunch menus of $25 and dinner menus of $25,$30, $40 (prices exclusive of beverages, tax and tip). There is no limit on what restaurants can offer, in terms of number of courses or items, but Visit Berkeley encourages restaurants to use this opportunity to create signature menu items and offer high value to dining guests.

How will people hear about Berkeley Restaurant Week?

Visit Berkeley will create a dedicated website landing page at and underwrite an advertising and PR campaign in support of BRW, including advertising in local and regional media, social media, and more. In addition, BRW is part of California Restaurant Month (see below), and will benefit from Visit California’s national advertising and publicity campaign. BRW will be featured via Open, who will track all BRW reservations made through its site. Restaurants with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are encouraged to help us promote #BRW via their social media channels.

What kinds of promotional items will be provided to participating restaurants?

Visit Berkeley will provide restaurants, at no cost, branded window clings, postcards and other quality collateral materials to support Berkeley Restaurant Week. The more restaurants can help us spread the word for BRW, the more successful the program will be.

What is California Restaurant Month?

California Restaurant Month is a promotional initiative created by Visit California in 2011 designed to encourage post-holiday travel to the Golden State during the month of January and to continue to position the state as the top culinary destination in the country.

Where does it take place?

In addition to BRW, over 40 destinations through the state take part in California Restaurant Month. Each destination will have its own group of participating restaurants, which will be listed online at

How does a visitor take advantage of California Restaurant Month? Where do they go for more information?

Visitors can go to to see which destinations are participating and for direct links to their local websites for offer details and participating restaurants. Reservations for individual restaurants are recommended as these programs tend to be popular and fill up quickly.

How does Visit California promote California Restaurant Month?
