What is “kamayan style”?
“Kamay” is “Hand” in Tagalog and the term “kamayan” is a Filipino style of eating—communally. Typically, a kamayan feast features banana leaves spread out covering the entire table and is a natural substitute for plates. Mounds of white rice, a variety of dishes, sides, sauces, and vegetables are laid out on the banana leaf spread. Kamayans are designed for us to share and be with others in community.
